Best bollywood movies of 2012
Wondering what are the best bollywood movies of 2012 ?2012 could be seen as the most glorious year of Bollywood. Not only there were more than half a dozen movies that crossed 100 crore mark but also there were movies that are now cited as strong contender for Academy Awards 2013. The year saw release of half a dozen sequels and few remakes. However not all were equally received. Sequels like Dabanng 2, Housefull 2, Jannat 2, Raaz 3, Jism 2 and Kya super kool hai hum did good business at box office. There were fresh concept movies like IshaqJaade, English Vinglish, Student of the year, Teri meri kahaani and Shangai. All of them did moderately well at box office and were praised by critics. The year once again showed the power of Khan trio (Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and Shah rukh Khan). Salman khan and Katrina kaif starrer Ek tha tiger was the highest grosser of the year with more than 300 crore to its name and also become the second highest grossing Bollywood film of all time. Saif ali khan’s Cocktail was also hit at box office.

10. Dabangg 2:
I might have included Jab tak Hai Jaan at this place but Dabangg 2 is at this spot for a different and better reason. It is common rule in world cinema that if a film is blockbuster it sees a sequel. But most of the times the sequels are not able to carry the theme and plot of their originals and are panned for being a mere copy of the original Blockbuster. There are not many BEST SEQUELS OF ALL TIME. It was good to see that Dabanng 2 carried the legacy of Dabanng effectively. In fact Dabanng 2 is much better than Dabanng. First of All, Director Arbaaj Khan didn’t hyped the characters too much and remained to the basics. Secondly, Dabanng 2 kept the plot line running. At critic level you might find out loop holes in the plot but overall Dabanng 2 is a full entertainment package.
9. English Vinglish :
Entertainment is meant to deliver social problems and message in a fun way. English vinglish doesn’t have action packed or laughter packed plot but has very simple plot. The beauty of the film lies in its simplicity and ofcourse the acting of comeback Sridevi. India has 75% literacy rate and among women it is much lower. English is not our mother tongue but we are forced to live in a society where People consider speaking English as a sign of pride and class. The film points out that how people are treated if they don’t know this foreign language. The film might not entertain you all the time but it sure impresses you.
8. Vicky Donor:
Now here is a low budget movie that became the sleeper hit of 2012. The best thing about Vicky donor was its plot. The plot line was brand new and fresh and added to the plot was the new star cast. Roadies fame Ayushman debuted from the movie and his acting was superb. Yami gautam was another new face in the movie. The only known face in the film was actor Anu Kapoor who did justice with his character. The film revolves around a doctor who finds the possibility of a great sperm donor in a normal young man Vicky. Vicky reluctantly disagree the proposal made by doctor but later on treats it as a side business and made good money from payments and gifts from rich families. The film raises the issue of sperm donation and how our society makes fun of it.
Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee starrer Talaash has a plot inspired from several twist ending Hollywood movies. Directed by Reema Kagti, the film got praise for its captivate plot and above par acting. Aamir khan stars as Police Inspector Surjan Singh who loses his young child in a drowning accident. Surjan gets a high profile case of mysterious accident of a famous actor. Rani mukherjee plays the role of Surjan’s wife, while Kareena kapoor plays the role of a pr0stitute who helps surjan to uncover the mystery of accident. The ending of film is inspired from Hollywood film The Sixth Sense and Fight Club. Talaash was the third film of Aamir Khan (after Ghajini and 3 Idiots) that crossed the 100 crore mark.
6. Paan Singh Tomar :
Tigmanshu dhulia is acclaimed actor, writer and director. In 2011 he gave hit film Saheb,Biwi aur Gangster in 2012 he worked along with Irffan Khan on the biopic of Indian athlete Paan singh tomar. Born in Bihar state in 1931, Paan singh tomar won several medals at International games and made India proud. He lost his family when dacoits attacked the village. He turned into dacoit when the officials and govt. showed irresponsible behavior to him on the issue. Irffan khan was best choice to play the character and once again he showed why he had the potential to star in Hollywood movies.

Vidya Balan is one of the best Bollywood actress today. She showed her acting potential in movies like Parineeta, Paa and The Dirty Picture. Kahaani once again showcased her versatility in acting. The film centered on her character and she carried the film single handedly. Bengali director Sujoy ghosh worked on a plot with twist ending. The film was inspired from several Hollywood movies. However, Sujoy ghosh was able to keep the story intact and original. Other than Vidya Balan’s central character, the character of Saswata bannerjee’s Bob Biswas and Nawajuddin siddiwqui’s Khan were also played beautifully well.
When Karan Johar announced the remake of Amitabh Bachchan starer Agneepath (1990) then every body was wondering who will be able to fit the shoes of Big B’s one of the best character Vijay Dinanath Chauhan. It was not easy to imagine Hrithik roshan, the handsome hunk to portray the versatile character. However, Hrithik once again proved that why he is one of the hard working actor in the industry. Sanjay Dutt’s Kancha cheena was more dangerous than the one played by Danny. Omitting the character of Iyer swami (Played by Mithun Chakarborty) and adding new character Rauf lala (played by Rishi Kapoor) was a smart and successful move. Priyanka chopra played the female lead effectively. The plot was already cited as one of the best screenplay in Bollywood. The only thing needed was to transform it into film effectively. Karan Malhotra did it beautifully.
3. Gangs of Wasseypur:
To say Gangs of Wasseypur is Indian version Of ‘The Godfather’ will be under statement. Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur is not an entertainment package for everyone. The film is inspired from real life events and is presented in a way that makes strong impact on mind. The 5 hour long saga was divided and released into two parts. I become fan of Anurag Kashyap when I first saw ‘Black Friday. The beautiful thing about GOW is that the saga of 3 generations spawning more than 60 years is presented in a pacing and entertaining manner. Each and Every Character of GOW can be related to real life. Anurag kashyap was able to show the personalities of different characters while maintaining the focus on the main plot. Be it Nawajjudin Sidiqui’s Faizal Khan, Manoj Bajpai’s Sardar Khan, Tigmanshu dhulia’s Ramdhari singh, Piyush Mishra’s Nasir,Richa Chadda’s Nagma Khatoon or Reema Sen’s Durga every actor gave best performance of his/her career in the film. Dialogues were memorable. If it was not the next two films of the list I would have called GOW the best Bollywood film of all time. However, Gangs of Wasseypur is the still best Indian Crime/Thriller film ever made.
Ranbeer kapoor starer Barfi has lots of thing to offer. The characters teach how to enjoy the joyful ride of life even when you’re not fully functional person. Ranbeer kapoor has already showed his acting potential in movies like Rocket Singh salesman of the year and Rockstar. However his performance in Barfi was above par and he not only was praised by Indian audience and critics but also got applaud at international film festival. It was not just Ranbeer kapoor alone who made Barfi a hit. Priyanka chopra’s performance as autistic girl was one of the best performance of his career. Iilena D Cruz might be a new face to Bollywood fans but the lady has already proved herself in south cinema. Barfi has many scenes inspired from characters like Tom and Jerry, Charlie Chaplin and Mr. Bean.
1. Oh My God!:
It is hard to watch and Forget Oh My God!, Unarguably the best Bollywood movie of 2012. Never before any director had dared enough to make a movie that satires on religion and beliefs of people about religion. Oh My God! Not only satire the superstitious attitude of Indians but also criticize fake religious Gurus who on the name of religion loot people. The film is based on the Gujrati play Kanji virudh kanji. Paresh rawal alone made the plot more interesting and film more meaningful. Mithun Chakarborty too was fit in his role. Director Umesh shukla got wide praise for presenting fresh and hot concept in a non controversial way.
