Filmography and Biography of Ben Kingsley
Ben Kingsley is actor of Versatility. He was born on 31 December 1943 to British actress Anna Lyna Mary and Indian doctor Rahimtulla Harji Bhanji. His birth name was Krishna Pandit bhanji but he later changed it to Ben Kingsley as he thought that a foreign name might hurt his acting career. Due to his mix heritage he has often found himself playing roles of different backgrounds easily. His most famous role was in Richard Attenborough’s film Gandhi in 1982. He played legendary Mahatma Gandhi in the film which was not only applauded by the critics but was also loved by fans. The film won 8 Oscars including Best Actor in Lead role for Ben Kingsley.
Due to his mother’s involvement in show business Ben soon developed interest in acting and theater. However it was not easy for him to continue. In early 70s he was doing Broadway plays and musicals and was auditioning for Television and movies. He did several minor roles in TV shows and movies. However he didn’t found fame from such roles. In 1981 he was offered by Richard Attenborough to star as Mahatma Gandhi in his film. He prepared hard for his role and read a lot about Gandhi. The film had many Indian actors. The success of the film led Ben to international stardom.
In 80s Ben continued his work in Hollywood and worked with several popular stars. In 1993 he appeared as Itzhak stern, in Steven Spielberg’s much acclaimed film Schindler’s list. The film won 7 academy awards. In 2000 he appeared in crime drama film Sexy beast which also was critically acclaimed.
Ben has been honoured as the Commander of the Order of the British Empire. He also has Hollywood walk of fame and won Padma Shri in 1984. He has married four times and has four children. He currently lives in London with his fourth wife.
